The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services (Main) Examination 2024 officially concluded on September 29, 2024.

Candidates who successfully cleared the preliminary examination were eligible for the main examination, which began on September 20, 2024, and continued until September 29, 2024.

The UPSC will now evaluate the candidates based on their performance in the Civil Services (Main) Examination. Shortlisted candidates, who meet the minimum qualifying marks, will be eligible to participate in the final stage – the Interview/ Personality Test. The list of selected candidates for this next phase will be released by the commission shortly.

During the interview process, candidates will be assessed by a board that will have access to the candidate's career record. The interview will cover matters of general interest, allowing candidates to demonstrate their suitability for a career in public service.

Focus of the Interview/ Personality Test

According to the commission, the Interview/ Personality Test is not designed to re-evaluate the specialised or general knowledge that candidates have demonstrated in the written papers. Instead, it aims to assess broader qualities and interests.

As the official notification elaborates, "Candidates are expected to have taken an intelligent interest not only in their special subjects of academic study but also in the events happening around them, both within and outside their own state or country. They should be aware of modern currents of thought and new discoveries that are expected to engage the curiosity of well-educated youth."
