The Supreme Court is set to hear petitions filed by NEET PG 2024 aspirants on October 25, raising concerns over alleged irregularities in the National Eligibility Entrance Test - Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2024. According to the official website of the Supreme Court, the petitioners are seeking a directive for the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) to release the NEET PG answer keys and disclose the normalisation process used to compile the 2024 results.
During the previous Supreme Court hearing in September, a bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud criticised the last minute changes made to the NEET PG exam pattern, calling them "unusual”. The apex court had then ordered responses from both NBEMS and the central government, demanding clarification within a week.
The NEET PG 2024 results were announced in August by the National Board of Examinations (NBE), but the answer keys and official cut-offs were not released. Given that the exam was conducted in multiple shifts, the examination board stated that it would employ the normalisation method commonly used by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for its exams to ensure fairness.
Candidates have been raising doubts over the transparency of the examination, which was conducted in two shifts for the first time. Complaints include unexpectedly low scores, allegations of a paper leak, and the exam's repeated postponements.
The NEET PG 2024 exam was held on August 11, with 2,28,540 candidates appearing at 416 test centres across India. The examination serves as the gateway to postgraduate medical programmes such as MD and MS, offered by both government and private medical colleges.
