The Supreme Court has deferred the hearing on a petition challenging transparency in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for postgraduate (NEET PG 2024) medical admissions. The petition, filed by Ishika Jain and others, raises concerns over the lack of publicly available answer keys and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the exam, leaving both candidates and state authorities uncertain about the examination’s structure and counselling process.
According to PTI, the petition follows multiple candidate complaints of rank discrepancies based on unofficial answer keys, urging NBE to release official answer keys and establish a grievance portal for candidates. Senior advocate Vibha Makhija, representing the petitioners, noted that candidates lack access to question papers and answer keys, hindering their ability to transparently evaluate their results.
The National Board of Examination (NBE) clarified that answer checks are fully automated with no manual intervention. In an official statement, the board stated that the NEET PG information bulletin had specified that response sheets, question papers, and answer keys would not be shared, citing the limited availability of high difficulty questions.
Earlier, advocates Vibha Makhija and Parul Shukla argued that the NEET PG 2024 exam is conducted under frequently revised information bulletins, resulting in last-minute changes by examination agencies. In response, the Supreme Court bench, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and comprising Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, directed the NBE to provide a response to the petition, which accuses the NBE of insufficient transparency in the NEET PG 2024 examination.
Meanwhile, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) opened registration for NEET PG 2024 counseling on September 20, with further details on the counselling rounds to follow on the official website mcc.nic.in.
