Rajasthan has decided to hold the Rajasthan Eligibility Examination of Teachers (REET) on May 14 and May 15, 2022 to recruit more than 20,000 teachers for teaching at primary and upper primary classes in schools across the state.
The decision of conducting this examination was taken at a meeting of Rajasthan’s education department chaired by chief minister Ashok Gehlot on December 30. Gehlot took to microblogging website Twitter to make this announcement.
REET-2021 was conducted in September to recruit around 31,000. However, REET candidates had been demanding an increase in the number of vacancies to 50,000.
Applicants have been asked to note that the REET exam is likely to be held for level 1 and level 2 on the given dates. Applicants have an option to choose the level they wish to appear for depending on the classes they want to teach.
Every year, more than 15 lakh applicants take the exam. This time, it will be conducted under strict security to avoid any problem.

REET is held for the recruitment of teachers for two different levels – Level I for primary schools and Level II for upper primary schools. The candidates who crack REET are eligible for teaching in classes I to V and classes VI to VIII in schools of Rajasthan.
The official announcement of the dates from the education department is still awaited. According to sources, an announcement is likely to be made soon.
The chief minister of Rajasthan has also asked concerned officials in the state to make an action plan for solving the problems of para-teachers, madarsa para-teachers and panchayat assistants as per the directives of the Supreme Court. Para teachers are ad-hoc teachers who were initially appointed on honorarium basis under the Centre’s Sarva Siksha Abhiyaan as a temporary solution to overcome the dearth of teachers in government schools.
