National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur, conferred certificates to a total of 904 students graduating from the institution in 2021 at its 11th convocation ceremony held on December 18.
As many as 587 BTech students, 145 MTech students, 84 from MCA and 16 PhD students got their certificates on the day. However, only about 400 students were invited to receive their certificates in person due to COVID-19 restrictions, the institute’s dean academics Amresh Kumar said.
Two BTech students, Bittu Kumar and Y A Vahini, were awarded gold medals for undergraduate and postgraduate engineering courses respectively, while 16 students received silver medals at the ceremony.
Union education and skill development minister Dharmendra Pradhan attended the convocation ceremony virtually as the chief guest, while Union tribal affairs minister Arjun Munda, the guest of honour, attended the ceremony in person.
NIT Jamshedpur director Karunesh Kumar Shukla said the convocation is a prestigious function in which students are feted for their outstanding performances.
“During my tenure as an NIT director, five convocation functions took place between 2017 and 2021,” he said, adding that the institute in Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur figures among the best NITs of the country.
Shukla, who is also a member of the board of governors of the engineering college, said a boys’ hostel with enough space to accommodate 1,000 students will come up in the campus at a cost of Rs 91 crore.
Students ace campus placements
Overseas company Atlassian has offered jobs to six computer science students at an annual package of Rs 57 lakh, which is a record for the institution, NIT Jamshedpur’s training and placement officer Prahlad Prasad said.
Around 42 students received job offers with annual pay of Rs 40-50 lakh, while 65 students got annual packages between Rs 30 and 40 lakh, NIT stated in a press communique. A total of 120 students from the institute have received annual packages of Rs 20-30 lakh in multinational companies.
So far, 97 students from Computer Science, 80 from Civil Engineering, 84 from Electrical Engineering, 96 from Electronics, 89 from Mechanical, 72 from Production and Industrial, 81 from Metallurgical and 92 from MCA have been placed.
