Summary
The existing method of only offering the NEET UG exam once a year, according to AISU, places "immense pressure on the students to perform well in a single attempt"
If NEET UG is administered twice a year, separated by a gap of 40 to 50 days, according to AISU, it "will change the entire system, making it better for the students and medical fraternity."

NEET UG 2023: NEET UG must be conducted twice a year says the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) in a written request to the National Testing Agency (NTA). The request was sent after NCPCR received an application from Navneet Singh, a member of the All India Students Union (AISU).

NEET UG 2023: Why it should be conducted twice?

The request claims that holding the NEET UG twice a year would be a huge relief for applicants. Candidates will have another chance to try for medical seats if they are unsuccessful on their first attempt. This will prevent students from having to wait an entire year, and those who are able to achieve higher marks will be admitted to reputable medical institutes, stated Dharmendra Bhandari in his letter to NTA on behalf of NCPCR chairperson Priyank Kanoongo.

The existing method of only offering the NEET UG exam once a year, according to AISU, places "immense pressure on the students to perform well in a single attempt" and also "leads to a high level of stress and anxiety among the students, which affects their mental health."

"It frequently occurs that candidates, after an unsuccessful effort at the NEET exam, choose to enrol in a course they do not particularly enjoy while simultaneously preparing for the NEET the following year, or they choose to drop a year to improve their preparation and retake the test. They will be able to save a semester and apply for admission to the college and course of their choosing after two tries, the AISU wrote in its letter. If NEET UG is administered twice a year, separated by a gap of 40 to 50 days, according to AISU, it "will change the entire system, making it better for the students and medical fraternity."

NEET UG 2023: Will the exam be conducted twice a year?

As of now, there's no official statement by the National Testing Agency in regard to conducting NEET UG twice a year. Students are still hopeful that the request sent by AISU will be heard and right action will be taken for the benefit of the country's education and medical fraternity.

For admission to 645 medical, 318 dental, 914 AYUSH, and 47 BVSc and AH colleges in India, NTA conducts a single national-level undergraduate medical entrance exam each year in 13 different languages. NEET UG 2023 was given in offline mode to 20,87,449 prospective medical students on 7 May 2023.
