The National Achievement Survey for the students of Class V was successfully conducted at Sushila Birla Girls' School, Kolkata, on November 12.
It was a rehearsal of sorts as students got an opportunity to visit the campus days before educational institutes in the state reopen for higher classes.
The survey was conducted among students of Classes III, V, VIII and X in state government schools, government-aided schools, private unaided recognised schools and central government schools. The survey is held every three years by the Union ministry of education to diagnose learning gaps and determine interventions required in education policies, teaching practices and learning.
“It was indeed a wonderful feeling to see the little ones in school. It was as if the school building had come to life. The National Assessment Survey went off smoothly while maintaining all safety norms. Children were looking around in awe at the school building, their friends, and their teachers. It was an emotional day for all of us." said Koeli Dey, principal, Sushila Birla Girls' School.
“It was good to have the Class V students on the school premises after one-and-a-half years. More than 90% of the students reported to school for the National Achievement Survey. All COVID were followed by the students. Overall, the experience was very pleasant." said Vidisha Panja, headmistress, Sushila Birla Girls' School.

Teachers also had to give their feedback in a few categories such as different aspects and methodology of teaching, resources and pedagogy used.
"This being their first experience of a national survey, the students were skeptical yet interested. The teachers of the section concerned were also required to be a part of the survey. As a teacher, I had to give feedback on the resources and pedagogy used." said Diana Banerjee, teacher of English and History at Sushila Birla Girls' School.
Aritri Nandi, a student of Class V at Sushila Birla Girls’ School, found the survey very easy, particularly English and Mathematics. “What I enjoyed the most was getting a chance to sit next to my friends after so long. Although we were not allowed to go close to each other, just seeing them in person made me happy.”
