Jyotirmoy Public School

Jyotirmoy Public School organised its annual concert on November 25. The theme this year was — Vasudhaiva Kutumbakum: One World, One Family — as a tribute to the G20 Summit 2023 held in India.

The event was presided by founder-trustee and president of the Jyotirmoy Education and Welfare Foundation Partha Sarathi Ganguli. The guests included Swapan Banerjee, president of the State Olympic Association, Sangeeta Tandon, principal of Shri Shikshayatan School, Ranu Biswas, additional commissioner of the income tax department, Calcutta, and others.

The students staged music, dance and recitation performances that highlighted the culture of different nations. Principal Sushant Das welcomed the guests and presented the annual report on the school’s achievements. There were prizes for the achievers of 2022-2023.

The cultural extravaganza that followed was loaded with dance beat-boxing and instrumental music performances that left the audience on a high.

The students presented samba, hip-hop, folk and flamenco to foot-tapping numbers. There were musical renditions in different languages, including Japanese, Indonesian and Arabic.

The programme concluded with a show on Asia.

"It seemed like the whole world had descended on our school. We were celebrating India hosting the G20 summit. So the children highlighted the art and tradition of different cultures and nations. They had to learn all of this in a month," said the principal.

Lakshmipat Singhania Academy celebrated its 28th Founder’s Day on December 2 at the Kala Mandir auditorium.

Achieving students were honoured in the first half, and a cultural programme was staged in the second half. The hosts of the day were head girl Mehak Baid of Class XII along with Aaditya Hans of Class XI.

The chief guest was astrophysicist Debiprosad Duari. Also present were Sharda Singhania, president of the school’s executive committee, and Mamta Singhania, member of its managing committee.

The school choir began with a medley of iconic numbers by Michael Jackson and A.R. Rahman that transcended boundaries.

The dignitaries paid floral tribute to the late founder, Lala Lakshmipat Singhania, and lit the ceremonial lamp.

Director of the institution Meena Kak emphasised on the changing nature of the education system. “Technology, new teaching methodologies and the ever-changing landscape of knowledge require collective effort of educators and parents to ensure that our learners are equipped with the skills to thrive in this dynamic world,” she said.

“The world is changing rapidly and our students must keep up with becoming the leaders, thinkers and problem-solvers of today’s world. The education they receive must go beyond textbooks and traditional learning to focus on interpersonal competence,” said Bharat Hari Singhania, chairman of the Lakshmipat Singhania Academy Education Foundation, who virtually joined the programme.

Principal Jaya Misra presented the annual school report and achieving students were given prizes.

In much-awaited cultural programme students united William Shakespeare and Rabindranath Tagore, through dance, enactments, recitation and music, exploring some of their work and ideas.

A two-day induction training programme, Guru Dakshta, was hosted by Narula Public School under the aegis of Centre of Excellence, CBSE regional office, Bhubaneswar.

The inaugural session was presided over by Lalit Kumar Himanshu, secretary of Centre of Excellence, CBSE regional office, Bhubaneswar.

Educators from all over the state attended the event. Harinder Pal Singh of the JIS group; Arup Sarkar, president of Sahodaya School, Calcutta chapter, and principal of S.C. Memorial School, Chakdah; Sujit K. Jana, principal of Techno India Group Public School, Konnagar; Sunita Arora, principal of Delhi Public School, Howrah; Gurmeet Kaur, principal of Khalsa Model Senior Secondary School, and Stephen Raj, secretary of Sahodaya School, Burdwan chapter, attended the inaugural session of the event on November 24.

Teachers and principals of CBSE-affiliated schools took part in the workshop. Sankar Prasad Dutta, principal at Krishnagar Public School and Vijaylaxmi Kumar, principal of Asian International School were the resource persons here, sharing various upcoming CBSE modules in a vibrant and interactive manner.

In his inaugural address, Lalit Kumar Himanshu paid tribute to Guru Tegh Bahadur and shared information about the teachers' training tasks undertaken by the Centre of Excellence, Bhubaneswar. The workshops cover Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha. He encouraged the participating educators to come forward as prospective resource persons.

Arup Sarkar explained the difference between a teacher and guru.

Narula Public School principal Kamalpreet Kaur said: "There is a need to improvise and innovate teaching-learning skills to keep pace with the ever-evolving dynamics of educational needs, especially in the wake of the implementation of NEP 2020."

Children volunteer as magician Piyush Banerjee enthralls the children with a one-hour performance

The students of Calcutta Public School, Bidhan Park, enjoyed a day of fun planned by their teachers on the occasion of Children’s Day. The event was held on November 20, six days after the main day.

The first part of the programme was for children of Nursery to Class V, held in New Hall auditorium. The teachers organised a magic show for them. Magician Piyush Banerjee managed to enthral the children in a one-hour show. They left school with goodie bags and big smiles.

The teachers organised an excursion to Eco Urban Village in Rajarhat for the students of Classes VI to XII. The pupils were dressed in their best as they enjoyed a bus ride to the park. Besides the lush greenery, the visitors also toured a tribal museum that offered a range of crafts and artworks and information about the origin of various tribes of the nation.

There were food, music and lots of bonding between teachers and students.

"Children's Day was filled with joy, learning and memorable experiences. Our senior students went on an excursion where they engaged in hands-on learning and fostered a deeper understanding of the world around them. Our Pre-primary and Primary students were treated to a magic show. These carefully curated activities aimed not only to entertain but also to provide our students experiential learning," principal Protichi Lahiri Sengupta.
