It is not easy to carve a name for yourself in sports or a field which is not much heard of, yet Vidula, a 15-year-old kid from Jamshedpur has played the odds.
At the mere age of 5, Vidula has been climbing walls and has received several awards and certificates from India and abroad for the same.
Recalling how she got into this sport, Vidula shares, “My interest in this sport was developed when I used to climb shaped walls in the playground. Little did I know that a playground activity would lead to winning the National Sport Climbing Championship in 2020."
Her fearless spirit has also led her to participate in international tournaments like the Asian Climbing Championship held in Beijing.
Speaking about her experience of being one of the 18 under 18 winners, Vidula says, “This event has made me more confident and has motivated me to follow my dreams with more determination. I was extremely happy and grateful upon hearing that I made it to the list of 18 winners and my faith in me has just become stronger.”
Adding bigger accolades to her name, Vidula secured the second position in speed-climbing in the sub-junior girls category at the All India Bouldering and Speed Climbing Competition in 2019.
Determined in her pursuits as a climber, Vidula spends 3 days a week at high-performance centres, receiving training from professionals. “My dream is to inspire others to take up wall climbing as a sport and I look forward to representing India at more events.”
