The Heritage Academy, Kolkata Hosts a Stellar Film Festival to Set the Stage for Creativity

The Department of Media Science at The Heritage Academy (THA), Kolkata, proudly hosted the 7th Heritage Academy Film Festival (HAFF) on May 14 and 15, 2024. This vibrant celebration of cinematic arts was inaugurated by the renowned actor and producer Subhashree Ganguly, who graced the event as the Chief Guest.

She was joined by Dr Madhupa Bakshi, Dean of the Media Science Department, Pradip Agarwal, CEO of KBT, Dr Gour Bannerjee, Principal of THA, and other distinguished faculty members. The festival showcased a diverse array of events, including Fiction Films, Non-Fiction Films, Photography, One-Take Films, and Trailer Making, among others. It received an overwhelming response, with over 100 entries from students across various city colleges.

In her inaugural address, Subhashree Ganguly praised THA's rapid progress in organising such a prestigious film festival which had received multiple film submissions made by students from various colleges around the city. She encouraged students to immerse themselves in filmmaking, emphasising its potential to shape their futures positively.

Day one featured engaging sessions with Unmesh Ganguly, a content creator, actor, and founder of Bankuramemes, and Rwitobroto Mukherjee, a well-known actor. They shared invaluable insights on content creation and acting, enriching the students' understanding of these fields. The second day was highlighted by a Master Class on Filmmaking in the Metaverse, delivered by Professor Samir Mukherjee, the founder and mentor of VR/AR in Academia and Drone Academia. This session opened new horizons for students, exploring the cutting-edge intersection of technology and filmmaking.

The grand finale featured an address by the eminent film director and singer Anjan Dutta. He was interviewed by Judhajit Sarkar about his latest movie ‘Chalchitra Ekhon’, a tribute to the legendary filmmaker Mrinal Sen. A unique attraction of the festival was the Cine Couture fashion show, judged by Srijita Ghosh, a fashion and social media influencer. This event seamlessly blended the worlds of cinema and fashion, offering a fresh perspective to the audience. The festival's judges were esteemed professionals from the film and entertainment industry, including Judhajit Sarkar and Prof Ayan Nandy from SRFTI, among others. Their expertise ensured a high standard of evaluation for all entries. Actor Chaity Ghoshal also captivated attendees with her session, adding to the festival's rich tapestry of events.
