Lakshmipat Singhania Academy recently hosted the 13th edition of its flagship tech fest, exe.BIT, a three day event held on July 27, August 8, and August 9, 2024. This year’s theme, 'SynthAI – Synthesizing AI,' highlighted the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on industries, human potential, and our interaction with technology.

The inauguration ceremony set the tone for the event with a thought-provoking address by the school’s director, Meena Kak, who delved into the growing influence of AI and its implications for students. “The fear is, the lack of human connection with the spread of AI,” she noted, reflecting on the potential societal shifts.

The chief guest, Dr Sayan Bhattacharya, offered words of wisdom, emphasising that "The roots of all goodness lie with achieving less with humble minds." Jaya Misra further added, “This year’s theme, 'Synthesizing AI' was chosen to sensitise the students, on both the pros and cons.”

The event featured a diverse line-up of activities segmented by age groups, each uniquely designed to challenge students’ creativity, technical prowess, and critical thinking: Classes 3-5: pAInt-it-all: Teams of two from 16 participating schools created digital 3D art on the theme ‘Future of AI in Schools.’ Artify: Groups of three decorated CDs on the theme ‘Superhero: Now and Then,’ transforming them into eye-catching danglers. ScratchYourHead: Using Scratch 3.0, participants designed games based on ‘Robo Buddy.’

Classes 6-8: ArtIvate: Students creatively customised computer mice with doodles themed ‘Mindspace.’ codesCOOKjr: Participants built websites using HTML, exploring ‘AI in Nature.’ Excel-pixel: Students designed mascots in Microsoft Excel, focused on ‘Safe Using AI.’ FAQ: This quiz-based event tested logical reasoning, analytical skills, and aptitude in two competitive rounds. filmIT: Teams filmed and edited clips for a short film themed ‘How is AI Taking Away Our Creativity?’ shot before the event and edited on the spot. Tinkering v1.0: After a hands-on training session in aerodynamics, students constructed paper planes, competing for longest distance and duration.

Classes 9-12: Exe.bition: Teams showcased their self-programmed AI/IT-related projects to a discerning jury. Vlogumentary: Over two days, teams documented their journey through events, creating vlogs and formal reports. createAPK: Participants developed AI-driven personal assistant apps using MIT App Inventor. exe.bot: Students built chatbots using FlowXO/BotPress, designed to evaluate the AI ethics of other models. codesCOOKsr: Competitors tackled coding challenges across languages like Python, Java, and C++. AIdvocate: A moot court event where future advocates navigated cases involving AI’s evolving role in society. manAIquin: Teams designed and showcased sustainable outfits, complete with styling, accessories, and makeup.

Classes 9-12: Illustrate.AI: Digital artists created themed artwork exploring ‘AI or Emotional Intelligence,’ with no plagiarism allowed. Quiz Crusade: A quiz featuring IT and general knowledge rounds, with written preliminaries and star questions to resolve ties. AI Expo: Students composed original songs using AI tools on the theme ‘AI after 100 Years,’ complete with lyrics. icare: In a non-competitive segment, teams carried out humanitarian initiatives, addressing nutrition, shelter, and hygiene in underprivileged areas. Click: Photography enthusiasts captured nature and still-life scenes based on on-the-spot themes. Tinkering v2.0: In this drone-tech workshop, students built and flew drones, testing their skills against obstacles and other teams. CYRAKSHA: A session on digital security explored strategies for navigating today’s cyber landscape. The event also featured a workshop on cyber security by Dr Sangeeta Ray Maitra, who elaborated on cybercrime and the importance of the 3 Cs: confidentiality, compatibility, and comprehensibility–in securing digital spaces. Students were introduced to essential do’s and don’ts in cyber safety practices.

Classes 11-12: mAIncraft: Participants engaged in two rounds of Minecraft, salvaging resources and competing in a combat-based extension, Bedwars.

The event concluded with a vibrant closing ceremony, highlighted by a musical performance themed ‘Synthesizing AI.’ Guest of Honour Dr Sangeeta Ray Maitra expressed her delight in connecting with students again. The ceremony culminated in the prize distribution, followed by a heartfelt vote of thanks by Head Boy Taraksh Garodia and Head Girl Vidisha Mundhra.
