INDAK, the flagship event of Jadavpur University Dance Forum will be conducted on April 23 at the university campus from 10 AM to 8 PM. The day-long dance festival will witness participation by eminent dances from across the country, as performers and judges.
The theme for INDAK 2024 has been set as 'Body Politics In Dance'. The three events of the dance festival include paper presentation and panel discussion, dance competition and dance performances by eminent performers.
Body politics in dance involve how social, cultural, and political issues intersect with the human body's representation, movement and expression within the realm of dance. This includes discussions on identity, gender, sexuality, race, body image and power dynamics.
Schools, colleges and professionals are all invited to take part in this dance festival.
Dance is a way of expressing power dynamics through physical movements. The way dancers interact on stage can reflect societal norms and power structures.
The body can serve as a symbolic battleground for many groups of interest. Contemporary dance breaks free from traditional norms, welcoming diverse styles and body types.
It liberates bodies and emancipates everyday movements, accepting nearly every aesthetic style. It challenges the idea of a 'perfect body' and addresses social injustice.
