The Annual Sports Meet 2024 of Shri Shikshayatan School’s Secondary and Senior Secondary Section unfolded on December 14, radiating the spirit of resilience and teamwork. Held at the school grounds, the event was a vibrant confluence of athletic talent, discipline, and camaraderie. The day began with a warm welcome to eminent guests, including Chief Guest Ms Dola Banerjee, an Arjuna Award-winning archer, and Guest of Honour Mrs Shivani Shah Agarwalla, a world kettlebell champion. The ceremony was inaugurated with a symbolic release of colorful balloons, signifying the launch of the spirited day.

The event began with the eagerly awaited Inter-House March Past, a vibrant display of precision and unity. Leading the procession was the Student Council, followed by the spirited contingents of Arundhati House, Satavisha House, the Guides, Vishakha House, and Anusuya House. Bringing up the rear with pride was the School Band, their beats echoing the pulse of the day. The Chief Guest graciously took the salute for each group. Under the leadership of the Games Captain, the Student Council conducted a solemn oath-taking ceremony, committing to uphold the values of sportsmanship and discipline.

Marching in perfect synchrony, the students showcased the essence of unity in diversity, culminating in a dramatic unveiling of the Indian flag. Their second formation, an Olympic Ring, stood as a tribute to India’s outstanding achievements at the 2024 Paris Olympics, reflecting both pride and inspiration.

The Chief Guest, Ms Dola Banerjee, delivered an inspiring address, emphasising how sports foster mental resilience to navigate life’s challenges. She encouraged parents to prioritize physical activity alongside academics and highlighted the government’s 'Khelo India Scheme' as a transformative initiative to nurture grassroots sports talent.

Since introducing archery into its sports curriculum in 2023, Shri Shikshayatan School has been fostering a culture of focus and perseverance. To commemorate a year of successful training, the school hosted a special archery demonstration, where students displayed their precision and determination, embodying the spirit of aiming high despite setbacks. Additionally, in a tribute to Paralympians, the students performed an Aerobics presentation that celebrated resilience.

Continuing its tradition of community service, the school partnered with Udhbhas, an NGO supporting underprivileged children near Rabindra Sarobar, Kolkata. Guests from Udhbhas were warmly welcomed and participated in exciting races like the flat Race and a blindfold race, fostering a bond of trust and shared joy between the host and guest students.

Students from classes VI to XI mesmerised the audience with a yoga presentation, demonstrating asanas like Surya Namaskar, Vrikshasana, and Chakrasana. Their graceful transitions culminated in a spectacular Lotus formation, symbolizing purity, peace, and enlightenment.

With remarkable focus and precision, students showcased karate techniques, highlighting the importance of self-defense and inner strength. Their performance conveyed a powerful message: being prepared and resilient is essential in today’s world.

The mass drill depicted core facets of resilience, including service, connectedness, self-reflection, and mastery. The students’ final formation went beyond physical prowess, serving as a tribute to the values imbibed at Shri Shikshayatan School.

The day featured an array of thrilling races across four categories: Sub-Junior (Class VI), Junior (Classes VII & VIII), Senior I (Classes IX & X), and Senior II (Classes XI & XII). Events such as the flat race, relay race, obstacle race, sack race, and needle and thread race kept the excitement alive, showcasing the spirit of friendly competition and teamwork.

The Tug of War between alumni and the Student Council added excitement, as did the much-cheered teachers’ race. The day concluded with the announcement of Satavisha House as the overall champion, celebrated with medals, certificates, and thunderous applause. Senior Coordinator Ms Ambika Malaviya delivered the vote of thanks, and the National Anthem brought the event to a solemn close, leaving everyone inspired by the values of sportsmanship and resilience. Shri Shikshayatan School’s Annual Sports Meet 2024 was a resounding success, blending athleticism with holistic growth, and setting an exemplary standard for future events.
