Gulmohur High School hosted a first-of-its-kind Career Expo 2022 in association with the Tata Education Excellence Programme (TEEP) and Tata Steel Foundation for 4500+ strong student community of Std. XI and XII of the 50+ schools in and around Jamshedpur. The students of classes 10, 11 and 12 from ICSE, CBSE and JAC Board attended the event.
Career Expo 2022 is a two-day event. The inaugural ceremony was held on 18 November 2022. The Chief Guest of the event was Mr. Chanakya Choudhary ( Vice President, Corporate Services Tata Steel), the Guest of Honour was Mr. Ravindra Kulkarni, Head – Jamshedpur Plant TMCV. The Chief Guest and Guest of Honour appreciated the vision of the school to make students aware about new career options as the New Education Policy also indicates about providing students with such knowledge and chances. Principal Ms. Priti Sinha thanked the academia of Jamshedpur for supporting the event wholeheartedly.
Other dignitaries included Mr.R.N. Murthy (M.D. Tinplate Company India) along with Mrs. Sandhya Murthy, Captain Amitabh from TSF, from the Managing Committee Mr. Sanjay Sinha (Chairman) along with all the members of the Managing Committee were present. Other dignitaries included officials from Tata Education Excellence Program Ms. Tripti Srivastava , Chief - TQM & CQA Tata Steel, Mr. Ankur Gandotra, Head BA & TEEP Tata Steel, Ms. Monika Nidhi, Sr. Manager, TEEP Tata Steel & Ms. Vidya Battiwalla , Project Executive, TEEP Tata Steel. Delegates from various universities and Principals from various schools of Jamshedpur.
Highlights of the opening ceremony included a short cultural programme on the theme “Hopes and Aspirations of Students”, an engrossing panel discussion on "Futuristic Career Opportunities" where panelists like Prof. Bikram Kumar Bahinipati, Captain Amitabh, Dr. Kamlesh Mishra, Mr.Sri Ram spoke about topics like - Skills required by students 5 or 10 years down the line, understanding career options.
The first day of the event saw its successful conclusion with students from various schools visiting the kiosks set up by the universities and gaining information about futuristic career opportunities and watching short presentations by the universities.
The visionary leadership of Principal Priti Sinha with tremendous help from especially Ms. Vidya Battiwalla and Mr. Ankur Gandotra of Tata Education Excellence Program in association with Tata Steel Foundation brought Career Expo 2022 to a successful culmination on 19th November 2022.
The footfall of students was 3000+ on day two from over thirty-five schools from the city. The event was a chance for the schools of the entire city to realise the need to make students know about these interesting career options. It was noticed how students today are diverging towards careers in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Gaming & Coding, Podcasts designing and many more. Along with the universities, faculty members along with students from J.H. Tarapore, Tarapore School, Kerela Samajam Model School and Samudayik Ucchh Vidyalaya gave presentations on various career options.
Faculty member from DBMS KHS Sourav Banerjee said this career fair was very helpful to his students in making correct choices for their future.
Professor Ganesh Lohar from Symbiosis University of Applied Sciences said that All the things were well organized. The experience was excellent. Students and support staff played a very crucial job as they greeted each and everyone whether it was a professor or a support staff member with extreme politeness.
Himi Purkayastha from Ashoka University said It was a huge endeavour. The response from students was great. It was really wonderful to have a separate room to conduct the Career Expo 2022 and she was able to converse with the students. It was really a nice experience to attend this career expo organised by Gulmohur High School.
Principal Priti Sinha hopes that every attendee of this Career Expo goes back with a sense of awareness about new career opportunities and spreads the knowledge among the students of their respective schools. She urges school administrators to understand the need to include career counselling in their curriculum and connect it to the present syllabus in subject. The school extends its heartfelt gratitude to each and everyone who helped in making the event a grand success.
