Budding economists from different institutes got together to engage in different fun-filled events at ECOVERGE’22 hosted by the Economics Department of Scottish Church College on 28 and 29 September, 2022.

Students of Jadavpur University, St. Xavier’s College, The Bhawanipore Education Society, Bethune College and many more colleges took part in the two-day event featuring a plethora of engaging events which had put to test the acumen of the participants. Over 600 students took part in the on-ground event held over two days.

The 7 events which were spread across two days included, Mock Stock Exchange, Quid Pro Quo, Turncoat Debate, UNECE, Bidding Wars, Photography and Lord of the Pitch.

Mock Stock Exchange was a game that was meant to replicate the 90's stock market. The basic idea was to create a real-life stock market experience. It was Kushal Singhi and Karan Jaiswal from THK Jain College who used their skills magnificently and won the game in a span of one hour with a profit of ₹310000.

Quid pro quo, a game of international trade simulation which had realistic booms and shocks enthralling the participants. “This is the first time I have participated in such a competition and we were awarded the first prize. At the beginning, I was very confused but eventually I understood. I had very much fun and enjoyed it a lot”, said Komal Thakur of The Bhawanipore Education Society who bagged the first prize.

Bidding Wars, inspired from the IPL auction, made its debut in this edition of ECONVERGE and soon it became the face of this fest.

“Bidding War was one of the most competitive contests to be held. The bidders as well as the auctioneers were fully mettlesome. The Quiz round set up was pretty well but the questions were well-nigh tricky though we managed to qualify and we got "DELHI CAPITALS" as our IPL team. Fortunately, this team proved good for us, with unmitigated effort and sheer hard work we stood 3rd”, said Yuvraj Mani Trivedi of The Bhawanipore Education Society on behalf of his team.

Lord of the pitch was an event which truly captured the essence of the most talked about show Shark Tank. The event truly provided a stage for budding entrepreneurs to project their innovative business plans. It was the team from Shri Shikshaytan College who projected the wonderful idea of waste management through “Pramiti '' and secured the first place.

The UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe) was a new entrant for ECONVERGE. The committee discussions on the 2030 agenda for sustainable development and supporting Green Recovery from Covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine crisis.

The delegates came up with amazing points to enhance their country's stance and the committee witnessed several debates between the delegates of Ukraine and Russia. The Best Delegate was awarded to the delegation of China.

Turncoat Debate saw Aashi Agarrwal of St. Xavier’s College won the first prize while Photography saw Arun Charlez of St. Xavier’s College secured first place.

“The two days went by faster than I could have imagined. Everyone worked their hardest to pull of the entire Fest. The organizing committee the Event heads, it was a cumulation of everyone’s efforts that we could do it. When I first conceived the idea of ECONVERGE’22 only thing that I had was conviction. Conviction to keep the Legacy of Econverge alive. And here we are, standing after two days of rigorous competition, exertion, events, and a lot of delays. We pulled it off. And we hope we did it right”, said Ankush Roy, director ECONVERGE’22.
