The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned Trinamul MLA from Beleghata Paresh Pal for a round of questioning on Wednesday in connection with its ongoing probe into the alleged murder of BJP activist Abhijit Sarkar.
Abhijit died in Kankurgachi in north-east Calcutta on May 2, 2021, shortly after results of Assembly elections were out. The CBI filed a case in August after a directive from the Calcutta High Court, which tasked the central agency to probe incidents of alleged murder and rape in the aftermath of the Bengal Assembly elections.
The Sarkar family has consistently alleged MLA Pal's involvement in Abhijit’s death.
“We would like to talk to Pal on some of our findings into the case so far including where he was on the day the victim was allegedly murdered and if he had threatened the Sarkar family before the polls,” said a senior officer. “All his statements will be recorded and be a part of our evidence.”
Repeated calls to Pal went unanswered on Monday.
