Calcutta University will meet principals of affiliated colleges on Friday to discuss ways to ensure timely declaration of results of BA and BSc first-semester examinations under the choice-based and credit system implemented this year.

The university will explain to the heads of colleges the details of the procedure they will have to follow for completing the evaluation of the pass papers at the earliest, a senior official of the university said.

The exam schedule had been announced at a meeting of university officials and college heads on September 29.

The written tests in both honours and pass papers will start in the first week of December and go on till December 24, when colleges shut down for the winter recess.

The pass papers will, for the first time, be evaluated by teachers of the colleges where the examination is conducted and not the university.

If college acting as examination venue does not have a particular department, it may refer the scripts for evaluation to another college, a university official said.

The university is likely to provide on Friday a list of centres where the answer scripts can be referred to, the principal of a college said.

For instance, if students of a college write philosophy, political science and computer science examinations in an institution that does not have a department or teachers in one of these subjects. The principal can then refer the papers to one of the listed centres.

On completion of evaluation, the colleges will have to send the marks to the universities for compilation.

The college heads will have to ensure that answer scripts of all pass papers are evaluated by mid-January and the marks sent to the university by February-end.

The colleges were told at the earlier meeting that all deadlines must be strictly adhered to.

The choice-based credit system sets aside 20 marks for internal assessment, including 10 for attendance. The internal exams will begin when the colleges reopen after Puja. The marks will have to be sent the university by November-end.

The results will be declared by the university by middle of February.

Colleges till now only had the responsibility of evaluating the 50-mark additional language paper and the 50-mark environmental studies paper.
