An engineering graduate has turned Mumbai Indians’ fortunes around in their last two matches.
Following his four-wicket haul against Sunrisers Hyderabad which sealed their playoffs berth, Akash Madhwal took five for five against Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator on Wednesday to set up a clash with Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2
“I have been practising a lot and was waiting for my opportunity. I have done engineering, cricket is my passion and I have been waiting for this since 2018 when Uttarkhand got affiliation,” the pacer said. “Engineers have a tendency to learn quickly.”
Madhwal joined the Mumbai Indians squad last season as a replacement.
“When we practise in the nets, the coaches give us targets and we try to execute them. I’ll try to do better.”
Rohit Sharma also lauded his efforts. “Akash was part of the squad last season. He didn’t get to play. We knew what he was capable of, and needed somebody to bowl at the back end. I was confident he could get the job done for us,” the captain said.
