Metro Railway Kolkata on Monday said that it will run 36 additional trains on Saturdays and four additional ones on Sundays from September 25 onwards.
The trains on Sundays are meant only for essential staff.
In a press communique on Monday, the Metro authorities said the additional trains on weekends will be run to help the essential staff to carry out their duties.
“Out of these services, 151 services (75 UP & 76 DN) will run, in between Kavi Subhash and Dakshineshwar. During morning peak hours, Metro services will run at an interval of 7 minutes from 09:00 hrs. to 11:20 hrs. in the UP direction and 09:01 hrs. to 11:21 hrs. in the DN direction,” the communique said.
“During evening peak hours, Metro services will run at 7 minutes interval from 16:40 hrs. to 19:28 hrs. in the UP direction and 16:41 hrs. to 20:04 hrs. in the DN direction.”
The timings of the trains remain unchanged except for Saturdays when the first train will be at 7.30am.
There will be no changes in weekly Metro services.
The East-west Metro services will also remain unchanged.
Commuters will have to use smart cards and they cannot buy tokens.
