The Tatas have opened up a another of its hospitals in the steel city to cater to Covid-19 patients in view of a steady, but not alarming, rise in the number of cases.
Tata Motors Hospital Plaza, on the premises of Parivar Kalyan Sansthan in Telco, about 10km from the heart of the city, started accepting Covid-19 patients after all 112 beds meant for Covid patients at Tata Main Hospital at Bistupur got occupied earlier this week.
As of Sunday, the total number of Covid cases in the East Singhbhum district was 187, according to East Singhbhun district civil surgeon Maheswar Prasad.
Pallavi Roy, head of Tata Motors' Corporate Communication, said the hospital plaza had 20 beds for Covid patients. This number could be increased if required. As of now, 11 Covid patients were being treated there.
Roy said the plaza was 3km from Tata Motors Hospital in Telco and was equipped with ventilators. Patients with pre-existing ailments, coming for treatment or check-ups at Tata Motors Hospital, would in no way be in danger of contracting the virus, he added.
'The Covid set-up at Tata Motors Hospital Plaza is far away from Tata Motors Hospital. There are a separate set of doctors and nursing staff engaged in the treatment of Covid patients. They have nothing to do with the Tata Motors Hospital,” she told the Telegraph Online.
“Whenever any specialist doctor is required to attend to Covid patients, he/she does so in full protective gear,' he explained.
Apart from the plaza, there are four other hospitals that have been treating Covid cases. Tata Main Hospital at Bistupur has two Covid wards with 56 beds in each. The others are the state-run MGM Medical College Hospital at Sakchi, St John's Hospital at Bhilaipahadi along NH-33 on way to Ghatshila and Uma Superspeciality Hospital near Big Bazaar, also along NH-33 near Pardih in Mango.
East Singhbhum district registered its first coronavirus cases on May 12. Two persons, including a girl, had tested positive having returned home at Chakulia block in Ghatshila sub-division from Calcutta.
As of Sunday, the total number of coronavirus positive cases in East Singhbhum district was 187. Of these, 33 people have recovered.
'Except in two cases, all those who tested positive had a travel history ' said district civil surgeon Prasad.
