Young musicians including Ana Rehman, Savera and DigV have replaced Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy as composers for the second instalment of Prime Video’s musical romance-drama series Bandish Bandits, reveals the album for the upcoming season dropped on Saturday.
However, renditions of tracks originally composed by the musical trio — Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa — feature in the new album.
The album for Season 2 features songs sung by Nikhita Gandhi, Ana Rehman, Shubham Shirule and other musicians. It has a total of 17 songs, currently streaming on music platforms such as Spotify, Gaana and YouTube Music.
The fresh lineup of singers also include Digvijay Singh Pariyar (DigV), OAFF, Savera, Pratika Gopinath, Shloke Lal, Siddharth Pandit, Swaroop Khan, Poorvi Koutish, Alkk Ranjan Srivastava, Ankkit Singh, Akashdeep Sengupta, Asees Kaur, Ronkini Gupta, Arshad Ali Khan, Shankar Mahadevan, Dhananjay Mhaskar, Souumil Shringarpure and Jhalli.
The songs seamlessly blend timeless classical ragas with modern pop and rock. Set in Rajasthan, Bandish Bandits follows Radhe (Ritwik Bhowmik), a classical music student, and Tamanna (Shreya Chaudhry), a pop sensation from a contrasting musical world. Together, they embark on a journey of self-discovery, exploring that opposites can not only attract but also adapt in the long run.
While Nikita Gandhi and DigV’s soulful track Ghar Aa Maahi effortlessly fuses Indian classical music with energetic pop vocals, Ronkini Gupta, Arshad Ali Khan, Akashdeep Sengupta and Ankkit Singh’s Araj is a completely classical track.
Prithvi Gandharv and Suvarna Tiwari’s three-minute-45-second-long track Yaahin Rahio Sa is a perfect companion piece to Ghar Aa Maahi with its classical ragas. Hichki 2.0, sung by Swaroop Khan and Poorvi Koutish, effortlessly fuses classical notes and the peppy energy of pop.
In addition to the new songs, a rock version of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy’s Garaj Garaj, which was featured in the first season, has been released. The makers have also released a new version of Jheeni Jheeni, originally composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.
The songs, similar to the first season, capture the essence of the characters’ contrasting journeys in the music scene, while offering a fresh perspective by new talents this time.
The first season of the show, which came out in August 2020, broke new ground as the first Indian musical series, gaining attention for its deep dive into Indian classical music and unique portrayal of the art form. Songs like Sajan Bin, Chedkhaniyan and Lab Par Aaye, composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, were particularly praised for their blend of classical and contemporary styles, making the soundtrack a standout.
Directed by Anand Tiwari and co-created by Amritpal Singh Bhandari, the series will see the return of Sheeba Chaddha, Atul Kulkarni, Rajesh Tailang and Kunaal Roy Kapur. They will be joined by Divya Dutta, Rohan Gurbaxani, Yashaswini Dayama, Aaliyah Qureshi and Saurabh Nayyar.
Produced by Leo Media Collective Private Limited, Bandish Bandits Season 2 will premiere on Prime Video on December 13.
