The ground of Milan Samity, Belgharia, was charged with energy as Rabindra Path Bhaban Academy organised its annual sports day on January 12 and 13.

The chief guest at the inauguration was Member of Parliament Sougata Roy. He hoisted of the school flag while chairman of the school Prit Ghosh gave a welcome speech.

Secretary and head of the school, Priyadarshi Ghosh, emphasised on the importance of sports in a student's overall development as the meet was declared open.

The first day of annual sports saw students taking part in various athletic events. The students took part in a parade and a drill display, setting the tone for a day of camaraderie and healthy competition.

Students from different classes took part in different races, hurdles and jumps. Other students and teachers kept cheering for the participants.

Day II saw the students from Class VI to XII taking part in an inter-school cricket tournament. The other participating schools were all local institutions from Howrah. The host school won the coveted sports day trophy in the memory of Pranab Ghosh, a founder of the school.

The runners-up trophy was given in memory of founders Rabindranath Ghosh and Ashalata Ghosh.

An intra-school cricket tournament between the four houses also took place on the school grounds, where both the teachers and students took part.

Other guests at the event included footballer Bhaskar Ganguly, Prasenjit Banerjee, chairman of umpires committee, Cricket Association Bengal (CAB), Srimanta Mallick, chairman of observer committee, CAB, Sujoy Dutta, joint secretary of Carrom Association of Bengal.

The annual sports turned out to be a holistic celebration of talent, teamwork and tenacity.

"Our annual sports is a much-awaited event. The first day was about athletics and the second day about event. Everybody had a lot of fun. The students also enjoyed an inter-house cricket match on their school ground. Every event generated a lot of excitement," said Priyadarshi Ghosh.

Julien Day School, Kalyani, hosted their much-awaited annual concert recently, showcasing a mesmerising array of talent and creativity. Both the students and teachers performed at the event, the theme of which was "vintage."

The school grounds was transformed into a haven of music, dance and drama, as students from various grades came together to present a spectacular evening of entertainment.

The guests included managing trustee S.E. Broughton, chairman J.G. Broughton, Julien Nursery incharge Sharmila Broughton, Jessica Broughton, head of digital marketing for Julien Day group of schools, principal and director of education and development for the group of schools Terence John, vice-principal Garfield D’Souza and teacher-in-charge Richard Green.

The performance of the school choir and inhouse band won hearts. There were several dances staged on the occasion that showcased the versatility of both the students and the teachers.

Students also staged a thought-provoking play, Mother’s Day, and a nativity play that conveyed powerful messages. The young actors brought characters to life on stage. The event also fostered community feeling among students, teachers, and parents.

"The annual concert of Julien Day School, Kalyani, is the most awaited year-ending event of the school. It gives ample opportunity to children, right from prep to high school to showcase their talent in dance, drama and music. The theme was "Vintage" this year and it was a grand success. Our teachers' participation in the dance and singing performances made the event more special. Parents turned up in large numbers which is a great encouragement to all the participants," said the principal.

Two-day science and culture fare at Pramila Memorial School

More than 18,000 students took part in a science exhibition and cultural extravaganza, Scientia, organised by Pramila Memorial Advanced School over two days in December. The theme of the event was "Elevate and Create". Students from Class III to XII took part in the event.

For the science fair the students created different model and projects that showcased how technology and machines have impacted our lives, making it a little better.

There were live demonstrations and interesting models on wildlife, space science and Chandrayaan-3, a coal mine and the functions of the human body. Students also exhibited fun experiment to visitors, thus showcasing their knowledge of chemistry and the extent of their research.

The students came along with their parents to enjoy the event, look at the stalls and learn new things. There was music and dance as part of a cultural programme held on the sidelines on both the days. The cultural show saw students participating in dance, band and music competitions too.

"The two-day event was full of fun and learning. Almost the entire school, from Classes III to XII, was part of it. Each child tried to add to the event and take away some life lessons from it. There were music and dance contests held on the side. Everyone had a lot of fun," said principal Reshmi Mukherjee.

Don Bosco School, Liluah, organised an inter-school science exhibition, Bosco Scientifica, over two days. The event also had an intra-school category.

The theme was Global Symbiosis. The inauguration ceremony began with the lighting of the lamp followed by a choir performance.

Chief guest Debiprosad Duari addressed the audience, speaking on, "Space - The Final Frontier”. He spoke of Indian scientists who have done great work in the field of astronomy and Indian space missions. There were nine participating schools presenting models on physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, geography, computer, commerce and economics.

The inter-school category showcased exemplary models on laser security gates, solar windmill, transformation of bacteria, robo football and soil moisture sensor, among others.

For the inter-school category the visitors got to see interesting projects on non-Newtonian fluid, artificial skin, apiculture farm, sound amplifier and sun liquid process.

The chief guest on the second day was Tarun Das of Birla Industrial and Technological Museum who organised an interactive session with the audience on the wonders of science. Nearly all the participating schools took back some prizes.

“It was exhilarating to see the young minds come up with such brilliant scientific ideas. The event was a rich culmination of talents and the students got the opportunity to learn a lot of new things as they exhibited their projects,” said Fr. Manoj Jose SDB.

The air was charged with patriotism and enthusiasm as St Xavier's Institution, Panihati, staged a cultural programme to celebrate Republic Day on its school grounds.

The event began with chief guest Sailendra Chakraborty, chairman of the Suburban Educational Society, unfurling the Tricolour.

The school captain Damanpreet Kaur of Class XI followed it up with the national anthem and a speech on unity.

A cultural programme, India Rising, showcased the efforts of the students to spread awareness about the rights and duties of the citizens.

A series music, dance and drama followed. Through every performance the students highlighted the theme of unity in diversity, the essence of our nation. They also asked the audience to take pride in the fact we are a secular nation where all voices matter.

The chief guest asked the students to take pride in serving the country.

"Let us take a pledge of doing something positive for the nation, serving the country with pride, rather than wondering what we have got in return. That is how we are bringing up our students in school as well. The Republic Day programme was a reflection of that ideology," said principal Lipika Ghosh.

Students from various schools in the city and beyond came together at Delhi Public School (DPS) Howrah, to interact and showcase their creative talent at a daylong fest, Virasat - A Legacy. The programme was aimed at encouraging students to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of our nation.

Students took part in varied competitive events such as art, traditional music, video-making and other events that highlighted our cultural legacy. The host school opted to be a non-competitive participant this year.

The participating schools were Delhi Public School, Ruby Park, Saini International School, Ruby Park Public School, Birla Bharati and South City International, Udaynarayanpur.

Some of the events were Folk-O-Logy (folk music), Bhraman Sathi (brochure-making), Kutputli (dance) and Kala Bhuvan (installation art), among others.

Every participant got to display their special talent and innovative side. The guests and judges included heritage and disaster manager Sukrit Sen, folk singer Deep Chatterjee, lead flautist Ritwick Gucchait from the band Dohar, visionary artist Shyamal Chowdhury and writer Reena Jopat.

The visitors also admired a patachitra painting exhibition organised by the students.

The event was not only a celebration but a reaffirmation of the importance of preserving and passing on our cultural heritage.

"The event was a testament to the richness of our cultural heritage. It was overwhelming to see students, teachers, and the community come together to celebrate the traditions that bind us," said principal Sunita Arora.
