Importance of leadership and explained over three days

Effective leadership and team management are key to running a successful organisation and a three-day Management Development Programme at Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi, imparted lessons on these essential skills.

The workshop was attended by district-level managers of Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS).

XISS director Joseph Marianus Kujur emphasised the significance of transforming negative energies inside any organisation into positive energies. “The partnership with JSLPS is a matter of pride and privilege for us as we see here district managers who are leaders of today and future as well. The three-day design of this workshop is well-balanced with theoretical and conceptual clarity for enabling each of them in their bit of nation building,” he said.

XISS MDP coordinator Niranjan Sahoo presented the importance, context and objectives of the programme and spoke about the various challenges in leadership and the leadership imperatives that are required in an organisation.

Himadri Sinha, head of the Rural Management programme at XISS, elaborated on the basics of leadership

Shilpee A. Dasgupta, faculty at Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ranchi, dwelt on the importance of listening skills for effectively managing a team. She conducted an ice-breaking activity to elucidate her point.

Nishant Goyel of Central Institute of Psychiatry, Kanke, enlightened the participants about emotional quotient and intelligence quotient.

Pranab Kumar, faculty at Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra, talked about conflict management and ways to build interpersonal relationships in JSLPS.

Mary Bodra, associate professor at XISS, dealt in organisational transformation as she argued that leaders only have ideas and thoughts to bring an organisational transformation.

Anant Kumar, associate professor, XISS, spoke applications of emotional intelligence in leaderships in the context of development sectors.

Raj Shree Verma, assistant professor, XISS, discussed the application of various communication skills and other soft skills sets and techniques required in an organisation for its smooth functioning.

Bishnu Parida, chief operating officer of JSLPS, was also present during the valedictory session.
