The West Bengal school education, higher education and tourism departments have been conferred with the prestigious Skoch Gold Award.
WB chief minister Mamata Banerjee made the announcement on her official Twitter handle on November 14.
“School Education Department and the Higher Education Department of GoWB - have both won the prestigious SKOCH GOLD awards. Heartiest congratulations to all officials and members for this remarkable achievement,” the CM wrote on Twitter.
Instituted in 2003, the Skoch award covers the best of efforts in digital, financial, social inclusion, governance, inclusive growth, technology and applications and corporate leadership.
West Bengal’s education minister Bratya Basu also expressed happiness over the achievements and congratulated all the stakeholders in the sector, including teachers, officials and students, for their efforts and services to make sure that teaching activities do not get hampered amid the COVID-19 pandemic scenario.
In a separate tweet on November 13, Banerjee also lauded the tourism department, saying, “Happy to share that the Tourism Department of GoWB has received the esteemed SKOCH GOLD award for transformational performance during #COVID19! Congratulations to all officials and members for your hard work and dedication. Let us keep aiming higher.”
In August 2021, the West Bengal government had bagged the Skoch Platinum Award for the Silpa Sathi-Single window system; Gold for Auto-Renewal of Certificate of Enlistment through Online System for Urban Area; and won two Silvers, one for Online Issuance of Trade License for Rural Areas and the other for E-preparation and E-Submission of Deeds.
The Skoch Award salutes people, projects and institutions that go the extra mile to make India a better nation. Skoch Award winners include people from all walks of society and a wide variety of organisations. They receive this award for their extraordinary achievements in contributing to the society’s betterment.
The Skoch Award encompasses the best of governance, inclusive growth, excellence in technology and applications, change management, corporate leadership, corporate governance, citizen services delivery, capacity building, empowerment and other such softer issues that usually get lost in the glitz and glamour industry-sponsored or advertising-focused ceremonies.
This award not only acknowledges exceptional achievers — organisations and individuals — but also spurs inspirational guidance and motivational leadership.
