Several of the private schools in West Bengal that had been continuing with offline classes after the heatwave subsided have now declared early summer vacation.

Private schools In Kolkata were urged by school education department officials to suspend classes. The request was made at a meeting of the school heads and government officials. The meeting was chaired by West Bengal education secretary Manish Jain on May 5. All private schools had received a letter from the commissioner of education in West Bengal asking them to join the meeting.

Most schools have decided to close down for summer vacation on May 9.

“The Heritage School, Kolkata, will hold online classes from May 9 to May 20 and close for summer vacation on May 23,” said Runa Chatterjee, headmistress, The Heritage School.

South Point High School has issued a notice to the parents, stating that online classes will be held from May 6 to May 13 and the school will close for summer vacations on May 16.

South City International School, Don Bosco Park Circus and Lakshmipat Singhania Academy have also shifted to online classes from May 6.
