A centralised web-based online platform for online admission to undergraduate degree programmes in state-run and state-aided institutions and universities has been decided to establish by the West Bengal Higher Education department.

In a circular, the department stated that a 10-member committee led by MAKAUT's technology head, Pritimoy Sanyal, and including Dr. Somnath Mukherjee, principal of Dinabandhu Andrews College, and Madhumita Manna, additional director of public instruction, will oversee the implementation of the "centralised online admission portal" in cooperation with Higher Education department officials.

It was made clear that this does not apply to autonomous colleges, minority educational institution colleges, training colleges, law colleges, or universities that offer courses in fine arts, crafts, dance, music, engineering, pharmacy, nursing, or medicine.

According to a higher education department official, the system, which will be put into place beginning with the current academic year, will eliminate any chance of college union interference in the admissions process for UG courses and guarantee complete fairness and transparency. The admissions process will begin following the release of higher secondary and other plus two board examination results.

The new method allows students to apply to any state-run or state-aided college or university that offers an undergraduate degree by logging into a single portal rather than the admissions portal of a specific institution, which prevents them from checking in at other institutions.
