The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has officially announced the examination dates for the first and second semesters of the 2024-25 academic year for Class 11. This new semester system, which includes updates to the curriculum and question paper format, aims to streamline the evaluation process.
According to the council's notification, the first-semester exams will commence on September 13 and conclude on September 30. Students will be assessed in a variety of subjects, ranging from traditional disciplines like Physics and History to vocational courses such as Healthcare and IT. The daily exam schedule is set from 3 PM to 4.15 PM, with certain subjects like Visual Arts and Music having a shorter duration of 45 minutes.
The second-semester exams are scheduled to take place from March 3 to March 18 next year, i.e., 2025. These exams will also follow a detailed timetable, with sessions running from 3 PM to 5 PM. Similar to the first semester, vocational subjects will have a slightly shorter exam duration.
While the council has provided the exam schedule, the responsibility for organising the exams, including setting question papers and evaluating answer sheets, lies with individual schools. This decentralised approach aims to offer schools the flexibility to manage their examination processes effectively.
Furthermore, students will have the opportunity to appear for supplementary exams in February 2025, ensuring they can make up for any missed or failed exams during the initial schedules.
This transition to a semester system marks a significant shift in the state's higher secondary education structure, emphasising continuous assessment and diverse subject offerings to better prepare students for future academic and career pursuits.
