Session conducted by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, ZH College of Engineering and Technology
Technology innovations were the talking point at a webinar hosted by Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
Subject experts discussed some of the most pressing concerns related to technology innovations and how they should be addressed at a virtual session on ‘Commercialisation of Technology Innovations: Issues and Challenges’. The webinar was conducted by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, ZH College of Engineering and Technology (ZHCET), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
“Successful technology innovations that can make it to market quickly and are able to meet customer needs in the most efficient and economic manner come with potential challenges and safety concerns,” said Hemant Kumar Bulsara, in-charge, management section, SV National Institute of Technology NIT, Surat.
Bulsara said it was the responsibility of policymakers to ensure that the equitable access to new technology developments comes with the support to communities and workers impacted by the technological shift in the industry. The public, private and academic sectors need to collaborate with one another and the policies should have the flexibility to change as technology continues to advance”, he said.
“The upward patenting trend is benefiting the researchers and society, but this steady increase in innovations has serious issues. It is possible that the patent system will meet limitations. The quality of patents is of utmost importance and if an innovation incorporated into a standard is covered by patents, its validity and scope must be clear for all stakeholders,” Bulsara said,
In his welcome address, M. Muzammil, chairperson, Department of Mechanical Engineering, AMU, said, “New ideas have come into existence with the development of new tools, machines and smart manufacturing. Industry 4.0 demands machines to be integrated with Artificial Intelligence and high-quality mass production.
Faisal Talib extended the vote of thanks and also organised the event with Muhammed Muaz. He coordinated the webinar with Ateeb Ahmad Khan.
Faculties and students from universities, colleges and polytechnics in Italy, UAE, Saudia Arabia and various Indian Institutes of Technology, National Institutes of Technology, engineering colleges, public and private Indian universities and polytechnics participated in the programme.
The webinar was also attended by officials of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
