EdTech major upGrad has set up a philanthropic and not-for-profit division to make quality education affordable and accessible.
With a motto of lifelong learning, upskilling, and career enhancements, upGrad Foundation seeks to reach out to everyone with growing aspirations.
“We would like to see teachers, coaches and a million learners who cannot afford or deserve excellence to benefit from the upGrad Foundation in the next decade,” said Ronnie Screwvala Chairperson & Co-Founder, upGrad.
The foundation will focus on teacher training, mentoring and coaching, career guidance, scholarships, internships and online student exchange programmes. Working professionals, including first generation learners, women coming back to the workforce, and many in public services or the armed forces, are likely to benefit.
The pro-bono buddy and mentor platform will take off with an initial monetary commitment of Rs 500 million by upGrad while the foundation looks at inviting donors and corporates to grant schemes.
Online education has given millions the choice to pursue their ambitions and democratised lifelong learning. “We see the foundation as one more step in upGrad's vision of impacting careers of millions,” said Mayank Kumar, co-founder and MD, upGrad.
