The University Grants Commission (UGC) is set to organise a national webinar on “India’s Arctic Policy: Scope and Opportunities” on 9 December 2022 from 2 pm onwards. The commission has urged all students, faculty, and educational institutions to join the webinar.
The webinar would include speakers like M Ravichandran, secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES); Shailesh Nayak, former secretary, MoES; and Lars Kullerud, president, UArctic. Students and faculty can join the webinar live via UGC’s youtube channel, Twitter page or Facebook page.
“This is with reference to the UGC's earlier letter wherein UGC has informed regarding the release of lndia's Arctic policy, by the government of lndia. UGC has also requested all the Higher Education lnstitution (HEls) to submit proposals for the development of MOOCs at UG/PG Ievel for the SWAYAM platform on the six pillars of lndia's Arctic Policy (lAP) and requested HEls to create awareness among Universities, Colleges about availability of courses, job and research opportunities in the area of Arctic/Polar studies,” according to an official notification by the UGC.
“To take this initiative forward, the UGC is organising a National Webinar on "lndia's Arctic policy: Scope & Opportunities" on 9th December 2022 from 2:00 PM onwards,” it added.

2 pm - 2:15 pm: Participants welcome and background on“India’s Arctic Policy” from the Strategic, Climate Change, Energy, Disaster Management And Economic Prospectiveby Professor Mamidala Jagdesh Kumar, Chairman UGC.
2:15 pm - 2:35 pm: “Implications of Arctic change in India” by Dr M Ravichandran, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India
2:35pm - 2:55 pm: “India’s Strategy for the Polar Region” by Shailesh Nayak, Former Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India.
2:55pm - 3:15 pm: Talk on U-Arctic by Lars Kullerud, President, UArctic
