Talking about Tata Steel`s commitment to making youth industry-ready, Chanakya Chaudhary, vice-president, corporate services, Tata Steel, said: “TSF has been working to create avenues to skill youth from our operational areas in Jharkhand and Odisha. In our mission of enabling youngsters from Jharkhand to realise their true potential, we are delighted to start operating our third ITI at Jharkhand. We look forward to making it a world-class skill institution which will meet the aspirations of the youths of the state and ensure that opportunities are available to them through scholarships and many other outreach schemes apart from training and capacity-building.”

TSF already runs two ITIs in Jharkhand, at Tamar and Jagannathpur. “The two ITIs have witnessed excellent placement track records, including foreign inductions,” Chaudhary said. Students have been placed in industries operating in Jharkhand as well as other states with initial salaries ranging between Rs 1 lah and Rs 2 lakh per annum. Both institutes have maintained 100 percent pass and employment record with major employers being Suzuki Motors, Hindalco, Kyocera, Jamipol, RKFL and Brakes India. A few students have also been placed in companies in Hong Kong.

Sourav Roy, chief, Corporate Social Responsibility, Tata Steel, said TSF’s focus will be on reaching out to excluded communities, especially in the tribal belts, where youths receive specialised skills, the right knowledge and know-how to apply them. This is also the next step in the roadmap for skill development that the foundation has envisaged for the state of Jharkhand.

With a focus on inclusive growth, TSF`s efforts have always been to provide skill development opportunities for rural youths for better employment. Placements from both ITI Tamar and ITI Jagannathpur, two institutions presently managed by TSF in Jharkhand, have been good.
