Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin had visited Delhi on 1 April, 2022. He also visited the city’s government's schools and mohalla clinics and was highly impressed by the capital city’s model of education. It was back then when he expressed his willingness to develop model schools in his own state as well and invited Chief Minister Kejriwal to see them. Kejriwal accepted the invitation and stated that it would be a matter of great honour for him.
The primary focus of these Model schools and residential schools in Tamil Nadu is to make sure that students from government schools enter institutes of eminence and thereafter pursue professional courses in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Medicine).
At present ten model schools are functioning in the state where students from Classes 9,10, 11 and 12 are studying which has also been functional since October 2021. This Model School initiative is now being upscaled to 15 more locations in the state with a budget of Rs 125 crores.
Furthermore, 26 schools throughout the state’s key municipalities and corporations have been selected to go through a transformation stage and turn into Schools of Excellence.
These schools will be the platform that will groom talent, nurture the spirit of sportsmanship and diligence along with providing exposure to internal and external opportunities. These schools will even be granted well-equipped classrooms according to their needs.
