Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar, the chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), announced today that the application process for the Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM) courses for the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) has begun. According to him, there are three streams of study available: engineering, science and technology, and humanities and social sciences. The official website, swayam.gov.in, will be the place where students can register.
The head of the UGC announced the launch of the Indian Knowledge System: Concepts and Application Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) on Twitter. "In addition to the publishing of our book on IKS, we are pleased to inform you that MOOC courses on the aforementioned topic have begun". SWAYAM classes will start on July 31.
The purpose of the Humanities and Social Sciences course is to introduce students to the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) in general and to make them aware of the contributions that early Indians made to philosophy, science, and related applications and ideas. The science course syllabus divides the topics and applications into 10 weeks.
Students who choose this course will learn about units of measurement, number systems, mathematics, astronomy, knowledge frameworks and classifications, linguistics, wellness and psychology, town planning, and architecture.
The SWAYAM courses consist of four quadrants, video lectures, downloadable reading materials that have been carefully developed for the course, self-assessment quizzes, and online discussion forums for doubt-clearing.
