The Supreme Court of India is set to hear a petition filed by 19 aspirants of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2024 courses today, September 13. The petitioners have raised concerns regarding the transparency of the results and the normalisation process employed by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). A three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice Manoj Misra, and Justice JB Pardiwala will preside over the hearing.
The petition, submitted on September 7, calls on the Supreme Court to direct the NBEMS to provide greater clarity on the scoring process. The students have demanded the release of the answer keys for all shifts, individual response sheets, raw scores, pre-normalised scores, and the final normalised results to ensure fairness and transparency in the examination process.
The petitioners have also requested that the ongoing NEET PG 2024 counselling process be suspended until these concerns are adequately addressed. They argue that making the release of NEET PG answer keys and question papers a standard practice would help in maintaining transparency and trust in the examination system.
The NEET PG 2024 results, declared by the NBEMS on August 23, sparked discontent among candidates who noticed unexpectedly low ranks. Several candidates compared their scores with unofficial answer keys and expressed concerns over potential discrepancies in the ranking process. In response, aspirants submitted a formal grievance to NBEMS on September 4, urging the board to release the official answer keys and establish a grievance redressal mechanism.
While the NBEMS has announced the NEET PG 2024 results, the counselling schedule remains pending, leaving students anxious as they await the next steps in their admission process.
The Supreme Court's decision on the matter could have significant implications for the current and future conduct of NEET PG examinations and the overall transparency of the medical entrance examination system in India.
