The staff members of St. James' School took their Christmas programme online, giving it a touch of virtual reality on December 23. The programme was pre-recorded and premiered on YouTube.
The programme started by offering an opening prayer by John Paramata, who is a teacher, and followed by vice-principal Neville Holt reading a gospel from the Bible. Then there was a musical representation of the nativity play by the teachers. The nativity play is the story of the night when Jesus Christ was born. The background and props of the play were created by using graphics. The music, mixing and graphics were done by Joseph Mondal, who is a music teacher at the school. The entire nativity play was shot using a green screen in a classrom which was tranformed into a studio and later graphics were used to create the stable where Jesus was born and the animals in it.
After the nativity musical, the teachers wore Santa hats and formed a choir to sing the popular Christmas carol ‘We wish you a Merry Christmas’.

Followed by the performance of the junior school staff members, a drone shot of the school’s aerial view appeared with junior section teachers on the school ground. The teachers then sang two Christmas songs. The performance was directed by Joseph Mondal and guided by Betty Mary Mathew who is the head of the junior school.
The programme left the students of St. James' School enticed. The graphics stole the show as younger students enjoyed the virtual programme from their homes. Practice sessions had been held after school with teachers since mid-November. Students were excluded from the programme keeping in mind their safety and examinations.
The 30-minute long programme was concluded by a Christmas message by Shreeraj Mohanty, vicar, St. James' Church and a closing speech by Terence H. Ireland, the principal.
Mohanty, in his Christmas message, said, “When we think of Christmas, the first thing that comes to our mind is that, Christmas is about giving. (To the students) when you helped someone in need how did you feel? I am sure you felt a sense of joy and satisfaction. And the person you helped felt the joy and happiness. Christmas is about spreading joy.”
“I am here to wish everyone a blessed Christmas and bright and prosperous new year. It is an occasion to celebrate. But we must look at those who need our support and help. We must be prepared to lend a helping hand to help others. At St James', this Christmas we want to give the message of helping everyone in need,” said Ireland in his closing speech.
