Poster-making, waste segregation, scrapbooks, craft with recycled items — students of Jamshedpur schools engaged in an array of green activities on the occasion of Earth Day.

Students of Sacred Heart Convent, Jamshedpur, joined a

Save Mother Earth initiative. They made posters to raise awareness about the environment, attended a special assembly and took an oath to protect the Earth.

The school also distributed cloth bags among students and faculty members in a bid to keep the campus plastic-free.

Seven students of Sacred Heart Convent, accompanied by a teacher, visited to Gulmohur School, Telco, where the students participated in an awareness programme called ‘Let's Be Earth Buddies’.

Sacred Heart Convent principal Sister Rashmita, Environment Club moderators Samarpita and Marina and the students planted 15 saplings to mark the occasion.

Motilal Nehru Public School initiated a five-day waste segregation drive where pupils brought different day-to-day waste products that they use in school and disposed them of in the correct manner.

The junior school students prepared seed balls. Motilal Nehru Public School has a tradition of gifting saplings and seed balls to guests and pupils on their birthdays.

The senior school students took part in a slogan-writing competition on ‘Why Earth Day is so important for us’.

The highlight of the day was Physics teacher Sweta Sharma’s session with Class XII science stream students titled ‘Protect our Plant’. In a bid to raise awareness among students, she shed light on various aspects and effects of climate change, namely, business, economic and ecological.

Earth Day was also celebrated at AIWC Academy of Excellence in Jamshedpur. Students from Nursery to Class III participated in the celebrations. Students of Nursery and KG were dressed in green and blue T-shirts to show their dedication to the cause.

Nursery students prepared a scrapbook on ‘Planet Earth’. The children made a model/impression of the Earth with balloons. KG students prepared terrariums in which plant life was depicted and Class I, II and III students participated in a Tree Plantation programme.
