Ranchi University has passed a unique resolution to check plagiarism in research.
PhD scholars at Ranchi University will now submit a written declaration that they have not resorted to plagiarism while writing the thesis. The certificate has to be submitted along with the final research paper.
The proposal has been approved by the Ranchi University Academic Council. The syndicate has also approved plagiarism checks for research papers in keeping with the guidelines laid out by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Gazette of India.
Other decisions approved by the academic council of the university include renaming the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication as School of Mass Communication, changes in the syllabus of the three-year BA course in Journalism and Mass Communication and the two-year MA course in Film Studies and Production.
The varsity council has approved a one-year postgraduate diploma course in Film Studies and Production.
The Department of Archaeology and Museology will also be renamed as School of Archaeology and Museology. The syllabus approved by the Board of Study will be implemented in the department. The board will also be allowed to make changes in the syllabi of some other departments.
For starting courses in Sanskrit, Anthropology and Sociology, the syndicate has directed that posts be created before the decision is approved.
The syndicate also asked for a detailed proposal for the six-month certificate courses in Geology.
