The Press Club of India has announced the results for its national-level essay writing competition that had been held for high school students across India earlier in March this year. The competition was held in partnership with Leaders For Tomorrow, Voice of Kids, Korean Cultural Center, Goethe-Institut and Development Channel.
The top five national-level winners are Shambhavi Sinha of Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh; Aanya Rastogi of Queens’ College, Indore; Aadrit Banerjee of Apeejay School, Park Street, Kolkata; Satakshi Sharma of Khaitan Public School, Ghaziabad; and Aseema of Notre Dame Academy, Patna.
High school students from 27 states took part in the essay writing competition themed on United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. The essays covered the challenge of making quality education possible for all a sustainable development goal in the context of the pandemic disrupting traditional methods of education. The participants could also address the ways of raising awareness on gender equality or on the responsible consumption, production and reduction in waste generation.
The top three winners are to get Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively, with certificates, trophies and medals. In addition to that, three scholarships for learning German in Goethe-Institut and a scholarship for writing and reporting programmes is being offered by Development Channel.
A consolation prize of Rs 5,000 would also be given to the top five qualifiers. State-level winners will be awarded Rs 2,000 as the first prize, Rs 1,000 as the second prize and Rs 500 as the third prize. They will also be provided with certificates and medals.
According to an official statement, the top 100 participants who competed in the final round of the essay writing competition were given two options – they could either write an essay on Cultural Relations between Korea and India or an essay on Korea’s Status and Role in the International Society.
Bhavika Asmi Verma of Motilal Nehru Public School, Jharkhand and Srinivasa Hariharan Iyer of Sudarshan Vidya Mandir, Karnataka were declared the two winners. Both will be awarded a fully sponsored week-long trip to South Korea.
The top 100 participants will also get the opportunity to be trained as student reporters under the sponsorship of Development Channel. The students will get the chance to report on development issues, and their training will begin from December 27.
The winning essays at the state and national levels will also be published in the Voice of Kids (VoK).
