Presidency University (erstwhile Presidency College), renowned for its illustrious alumni such as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Jagadish Chandra Bose, former Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, and Amartya Sen, has maintained a stable fee structure since its university status was granted in 2010. For over a decade, the institution, which is over 200 years old, has not revised its student fees.
However, currently, a decision regarding a fee hike is under consideration. A draft detailing fees and the income-expenditure accounts will be presented to the students of Presidency University. This will be followed by another round of meetings to finalise any changes.
This information was disclosed at the conclusion of the Income and Expenditure Review Committee meeting held on Thursday, July 18.
As per a source, the meeting with students regarding the financial accounts was positive, and their demands will be taken into consideration. The possibility of reinstating the entrance exam was also discussed and will be further reviewed.
Currently, the semester fees for courses at the university are as follows: Bachelor of Arts (BA) INR 1,100, Bachelor of Science (BSc) INR 1,225, Masters of Arts (MA) INR 1,260, and Masters of Science (MSc) INR 1,335.
After 14 years, any adjustments to the fee structure will be carefully evaluated to ensure that the additional financial burden on students is minimised.
