Pathways School in Gurugram has administered COVID-19 vaccines to at least 50 of its 300 students in Classes IX to XII as a part of an immunisation drive run in the school campus to vaccinate eligible students in the age bracket of 15-18 years.
During the campaign, the eligible students were accompanied by their guardians to the vaccination booths set up on the school's campus.
In accordance with the guidelines from the Centre, the school authorities took written consent of parents before the vaccine shots were administered to the children. The vaccinated students were kept under medical observation for 30 minutes after their shots.
Sources from the school said that many students had already taken the vaccine before the camp was set up. However, such students will be provided the second dose of vaccine on campus 28 days after the date of their first dose.
Pooja Sachdev, mother of a student from the Pathways School, said, “I would like to thank the school and the team for organising the vaccination drive. It is a commendable step.”
The school administration followed all the preventive protocols required, including proper sanitisation and social distancing during the vaccination drive.
As of now, Covaxin is the only COVID-19 vaccine approved for use on children. In order to get vaccinated, the students have to first register on Co-WIN through an existing account or register by creating a new account through a unique mobile number.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 25, 2021, announced the inclusion of children aged 15 to 18 years in the nationwide immunisation programme against COVID-19. The vaccination of children in the age bracket of 15-18 years started across the country on January 3.
The initiative by the Pathways School comes as an effort to contribute to the country’s fight against COVID-19. The students showed a positive response towards the drive. Many students turned up at the vaccination site and hoped for resumption of on-campus classes soon.
