The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has significantly reshaped India's education landscape by emphasizing a well-rounded approach. NEP 2020 aims to equip students with essential 21st-century skills, foster critical thinking, and reduce the reliance on rote memorization.

Expanding the foundational ideals set forth in NEP 2020, the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE) 2023 has been unveiled. The NCFSE presents a comprehensive roadmap for curriculum development, pedagogical strategies, and assessment methodologies. At its core, NCFSE places a central emphasis on nurturing creativity, ethics, and social responsibility within students.

ETS, which is the world’s largest non-profit testing and assessment organization, will support NCERT as a consultant to PARAKH in organizing the first State Education Achievement Survey (SEAS) 2023 targeting nearly 11 million students across the country.

State Education Achievement Survey (SEAS) represents a distinctive and baseline assessment, marking a gradual shift from rote learning to competency-based education. The adoption of competency-based learning holds the potential to foster the holistic development of students. These efforts are dedicated to nurturing the well-rounded growth of future generations, and this survey will prove invaluable in realizing this aspiration.

Prof. Indrani Bhaduri, Head and CEO of PARAKH said, “At the heart of this endeavor is the belief that every child deserves a well-rounded education. Our competency-based assessment system aims to assess not just what students know but also how well they can apply that knowledge in real-world scenarios.”

Sachin Jain, Country Manager, ETS India & South Asia said, “By joining forces with NCERT, we are committed to fortifying the assessment process, ensuring its robustness, and elevating the quality of large-scale surveys in the educational sector. The shared objective is to provide accurate, equitable, and insightful assessments, empowering educators, and policymakers to make informed decisions that will shape the future of education in India.”

Scheduled for November 3rd, SEAS 2023 is designed to enhance learning standards for students in grades III, VI, and IX. Operating at the block level, this survey encompasses a comprehensive range of competencies, spanning the foundational, preparatory, and middle stages of education. Notably, SEAS 2023 places a strong emphasis on key subjects such as mathematics and language. This initiative signifies a substantial leap forward in prioritizing holistic student development within the education landscape.

To ensure that assessments faithfully mirror students' capabilities and knowledge, thereby equipping educators and policymakers with the requisite information to make well-informed decisions aimed at educational enhancement, the State Education Achievement Survey (SEAS) stands as a potent instrument. SEAS effectively identifies areas necessitating improvement and facilitates the implementation of evidence-based policies aimed at elevating the overall quality of education.

In partnership with states and Union Territories (UTs), PARAKH is working toward assessing more than 11 million students nationwide. This effort yields invaluable data and insights, which can be harnessed to craft precise interventions at the block level, effectively tackling specific challenges and promoting inclusive development. Ultimately, this endeavor paves the way for a brighter and more equitable future for students throughout the nation.
