Summary
The new batch of MBBS students' first-year classes will probably start on 1 August 2023
According to the academic calendar provided by UGMEB in the instructions document, MBBS students from the 2023–23 batch will take the NExT exam in December 2027 or January 2028. Every year, NExT will take place in December or January

The National Medical Commission (NMC) asked that institutions set up the admissions procedure so that first-year MBBS classes start on August 1 every year. Additionally, it instructed them not to register any admitted students after August 30. Any medical credentials given to students who are accepted after the deadline for admission closure (August 30) will not be recognised by NMC.

These are some of the recommendations made in an 82-page paper called the Graduate Medical Education Regulation 2023 by the Under Graduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB). The GMER-23 recommendations were released on June 13.

The NMC stated, "These new guidelines shall be applicable to all the admission made in a medical college's MBBS programme in the academic year 2023–24." The new batch of MBBS students' first-year classes will probably start on August 1st, 2023.

MBBS Programme Division

The four-and-a-half-year MBBS programme will be divided up into three stages, the first and second of which will each last 12 months, and the third of which will be 30 months, separated into Part I and Part II.

MBBS programme duration

A minimum of eight hours of work each day, including an hour for lunch, will be required during each of the 39 weeks that make up an academic year. Beginning with the second year, a total of 15 hours a week of clinical posting are required.

NExT Examination is compulsory

To be eligible to take the exams for that topic, there must be a minimum of 75% attendance in theoretical and 80% in practical or clinical. Students will not be allowed to take the Third Professional Part II test or the National Exit Test (NExT) exam if they do not have at least 75% attendance in their electives.

According to NExT regulations, the third professional Part II examination will be administered by NExT at the conclusion of the 17th or 18th month of that training and will cover general medicine, general surgery, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, and associated topics.

According to the academic calendar provided by UGMEB in the instructions document, MBBS students from the 2023–23 batch will take the NExT exam in December 2027 or January 2028. Every year, NExT will take place in December or January.

The maximum time required to complete the MBBS programme at NMC has been lowered from ten years to nine years under GMER.
