Key Guidelines for MBBS Admission Abroad

Course Duration and Training -

ADVERTISEMENT
  • Minimum course duration: 54 months (4.5 years).
  • Additional 12 months of internship at the same foreign institution.
  • The total duration, including training, must be completed within 10 years.

Medium of Instruction -

  • The MBBS programme must be pursued in English.

Registration in India Eligibility -

  • Students must pass the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) or the National Exit Test (NEXT) to qualify for permanent registration.
  • Failure to meet the NMC's guidelines may disqualify students from appearing for FMGE and registering as medical practitioners in India.

Curriculum and Syllabus -

The curriculum must align with NMC standards, covering essential subjects.

Foreign Institutions Accreditation -

Students must verify that the foreign institution is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDMS) and recognised by the medical council of the respective country.

Internship and Training -

  • Hands-on clinical training in hospitals and clinics as per NMC guidelines.
  • Adequate clinical exposure with a 12-month supervised internship in India after applying to the NMC.

Enrolling in a foreign medical institution that does not comply with the NMC's regulations regarding duration, syllabus, clinical training, or medium of instruction may lead to disqualification from obtaining medical registration in India.

Students are solely responsible for ensuring the foreign institution’s compliance with NMC regulations. Clearing the National Exit Test (NEXT) or other mandated exams is essential for permanent registration in India.
