The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Andhra Pradesh, is ready to welcome the new batch of JEE Advanced rank-holders to its new campus in Tadepalligudem, West Godavari district.

The 174-acre campus has been built at a cost of Rs 438 crore, using prefabrication construction technology. The green building techniques used for construction have fetched NIT AP a platinum rating from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).

“Out of all the new NITs, we are the only one to have completed our own building blocks and hostels. It is a proud moment for us and I am waiting to see the academic blocks filled with students, buzzing with their chatter. I hope we can welcome our new batch here for physical classes,” said NIT AP director C.S.P. Rao.

The new campus is adjacent to the Chennai-Kolkata Highway (NH-16) in the air strip land of Tadepalligudem. It has almost 10 lakh sq ft of built-in space and every building has been given names of historical personalities.

“We have the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Administrative Building and two classroom complexes, one named after Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, and the other after Madan Mohan Malaviya. The two labs are named after A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and C.V. Raman. The new library is called the B.R. Ambedkar Central Library,” Rao said. The institute’s new auditorium is named after Rabindranath Tagore and has a capacity of 1,100 people. The hospital complex is named after Mother Teresa.

The new campus facilities include canteens and a student recreation centre, with several rooms housing all the 17 existing clubs and having provision for more clubs to come up.

The Dhyanchand Sports Complex has open courts, facility for day-and-night cricket, football, lawn tennis, volleyball court and squash court. Additionally, the Netaji Indoor Sports Complex will offer several other sporting facilities for students as well.

“Our new hostel can easily accommodate 2,300 students. These include 150 PG and 150 PhD students. We have the provision to accommodate 1,000 girls and 1,500 boys at the hostel. Currently, we have limited faculty quarters here,” Rao added.

The institute has already forwarded a proposal of Rs 756 crore to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) for the second phase of infrastructure development, which includes quarters for faculty, staff quarters and international hostels and bachelor accommodation for PhD scholars.

At present, the institute is offering BTech, MTech, PhD and MS programmes.
