The Ministry of Education announced yesterday that the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023 will include a new category of Innovation and Entrepreneurship. This category will be reflecting the Atal Innovation Ranking released in association with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) which have so far been published independently.
Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA), implemented by the Ministry of Education and AICTE, is responsible for systematically ranking all major higher educational institutions in India on indicators related to “Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development” amongst students and faculties. They employ the following parameters: Mindset Development, Teaching and Learning, Infrastructure & Facilities, Innovations Developed, Startups Established, Collaboration & Investment, IP & Commercialisation, Expenses & Revenue, and Participation in Ministry of Education initiatives.
ARIIA defines innovation as “converting ideas into new or improved products, processes and services and taking inventions to the marketplace by translating scientific knowledge into products, services and offerings for economic growth and social development.” The integration of this ranking with NIRF has been done with the intention of facilitating innovation in educational institutions in India, allowing the nation to emerge as a global innovation hub.
