According to the official sources, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences would likely be in charge of conducting the National Exit Test when it is held here next year. In accordance with the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act, the National Exit Test (NExT) will be used as a common qualifying final year MBBS exam, a license exam for the practice of modern medicine, a license exam for merit-based admission to postgraduate programmes, and a screening exam for foreign medical graduates who wish to practise in India.

The government extended the deadline for holding the NExT exam for the last year of MBBS till September 2024 by using the NMC Act's provisions in September of last year.

NExT, a common exam for undergraduate students in their last year of study must be administered by the Commission in accordance with regulations within three years of the NMC Act's entry into force. In September 2020, the Act became effective. Last year, the deadline was extended, according to the authorities.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi may conduct the test instead of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), but no decision has yet been made in this regard. The NExT exam must be conducted, according to officials, who also noted that students must be given enough time to prepare.

Preparations include working out the modalities and deciding on the syllabus, type and pattern of the examination, whether it will be an analytical or a multiple-choice test, the number of tests, and necessary regulations. The major test would need to be preceded by practise exams.
