The Centre has informed the Supreme Court that NEET-UG 2024 counselling will be conducted in four rounds starting from the third week of July. This announcement comes amid ongoing controversies surrounding the exam, as the Supreme Court deferred the case hearing to July 18.
The Union government confirmed that the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test undergraduate (NEET UG 2024) counselling will commence in the third week of July, with the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) overseeing the process in four rounds.
On the eve of the Supreme Court's consideration of petitions concerning alleged irregularities in NEET-UG, the Centre presented an affidavit stating that a comprehensive analysis revealed no large-scale malpractice or favoritism. An in-depth review by IIT Madras, commissioned by the Ministry of Education, found no significant malpractice.
How the NEET UG Counselling 2024 Will Proceed
- First and Second Rounds: Students can change their seat preferences. If seats are cancelled before the third round, it will not affect overall counselling and allotment.
- Third Round: Set to begin in the second week of September. Cancelled seats post-third round will still be offered in subsequent rounds, but those already allocated seats cannot participate further.
- Fourth Round: If cancellations occur after this final round, additional rounds will be arranged pending Supreme Court approval.
