Registration for the National Eligibility Entrance Test-Postgraduate or NEET PG 2021 counselling is slated to begin in the second week of January, 2022.

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the new OBC and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) reservation scheme announced by the government.

The Supreme Court has accepted the recommendations for re-evaluating the criteria for EWS reservations. Candidates from families whose annual income is up to Rs eight lakh are eligible for EWS reservations.

Candidates from families with an annual income of Rs 8 lakh and five acres of agricultural land are not eligible for EWS reservation.

Residential doctors across the country have started protesting as hospitals are short-staffed and new residents cannot join until the counselling process begins.

Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya had said that NEET PG counselling will not begin before the reservation issue is resolved.

Delegates of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) met the health minister on December 30 and were assured that the counselling process will commence before January 6. The IMA is hopeful that the issue will be resolved soon.

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has decided to conduct NEET UG and NEET PG counselling in four rounds from this year.
