The NEET PG counselling registration process started on September 20. However, critical dates for choice-filling, editing, seat allotment, and reporting are still awaited. Meanwhile, the counselling process has not taken off in full swing due to a pending Supreme Court decision.
A petition filed by 19 NEET PG aspirants calls for the release of question papers, answer keys, and raw scores to ensure transparency and fairness. The petitioners contend that these measures are essential following last minute changes to the NEET PG 2024 exam pattern, made only three days before the entrance test. They have also raised concerns about the normalisation process and have urged the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) for clarification on this issue.
On October 8, 2024, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) appealed to Union Health Minister JP Nadda to expedite the NEET PG 2024 counselling process without further delays.
The next Supreme Court hearing for the NEET PG case is yet to be scheduled.
India currently offers 73,111 postgraduate medical seats, with the NEET PG counselling process crucial for allocating these positions across Doctor of Medicine (MD), Master of Surgery (MS), Diplomate of National Board (DNB), and postgraduate diploma programmes under the All India Quota (AIQ). The counselling is expected to be conducted in four phases: round 1, round 2, round 3, and the AIQ stray vacancy round.
