In wake of the alleged rape and murder of a PG Trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued an advisory for all medical colleges across the country to ensure safety of all the Staff members including faculty, medical students and resident doctors.
In its advisory, the National Medical Commission has directed the medical colleges to ensure adequate safety measures at OPD, wards, casualty, hostels and other open areas in the campus and residential quarters.
The authorities have also been directed to ensure adequate lighting in the corridors and campus for staff to walk safely from one place to other and all sensitive areas be covered by CCTV for monitoring.
NMC has also directed the medical colleges to post adequate security personnel, including male and female staff at OPD, wards, Casualty, labor rooms, hostels, residential quarters and other open areas in the Medical Colleges and Hospital campus.
The authorities at the Medical Colleges have also been directed to investigate instances of violence against medical students and lodge FIRs with the police. They will also have to send a detailed action taken report on any such incident of violence to the NMC within 48 hours.
